Some stats say more than 70% of children and youth leave the Church by the age of 18.Of those who stay approximately 90% of those leave by the age of 25. If these numbers are true we have lost 97% of all the children, youth, and young adults who have either grown up or attended Church.

Barna states “That young adults between 17 and 35 make up approximately 35% of our population nationally, but within our churches, most are lucky if they average 10%. This is not a foundation upon which to build the future of our ministries! Echo-Boomers are abandoning the institutional churches they were raised in.

Goodbye Generation is not about the study of numbers but rather an attempt to understand people.  The truth is we are losing people we have poured our lives into, kids are walking away from the faith of their parents, people have left hurt and disillusioned.  We are asking you to be part of turning the tide.

Join us, Wednesday November 4th at Point Grey Community Church with David Sawler for a one day seminar with David for campus ministry/youth ministry/anyone wanting to engage with young adults.

If you do a quick search on the internet you are going to find numbers and statistics that are mind boggling.  Some studies show we lose the vast majority of the youth in churches by the age of eighteen.  Of those more committed who stay past the age of eighteen most of them leave by the age of twenty five. In recent years several youth specialists claim that only three to five percent of all the children and youth who either grew up in the church or attended church have become active adults in it.

It must be understood that this is not effecting just any one denomination.  In the Western World thousands of churches are closing every year, while only a fraction of those numbers are being planted.  This is an issue for the Evangelicals, Catholics, Protestant, Pentecostal, Baptists, Charismatic, and every other Church group.

Wednesday Nov. 4  A One day seminar with David Sawler for campus ministry/youth ministry/anyone wanting to engage with young adults would be hosted at Point Grey Community Church

headerThis September is a special focus to all of our BC/Yukon PAOC churches called “Next Gen- Empower the Mission” The District Leadership Team is endorsing this effort and encouraging all of our churches to focus a portion of their service on Next Generation Ministries in our district.  The idea would be to pick a Sunday (in September ideally before “See you at the pole”) to profile Next Gen and also to receive a second offering on that day.  Promotion for “Empower the Mission” is available here and will also highlight some of our new initiatives this year including:

1.    Elevate Children’s Workers Conference (reaching 250 children’s workers)

2.    Spark North – Dawson Creek (reaching approx 300 pre-teens)

3.    Historymaker Live Event – Prince George (reaching approx 300 teens)

4.    Lay Leaders Youth Worker Certification – Training and certifying lay youth workers in our BC & Yukon churches.

If you are  a youth pastor, it might also be a great opportunity for you to profile your local youth ministry on that Sunday.  Please talk with your leadership now about ways we can focus on Next Generation Ministry for “Empower the Mission”.

Thanks for helping push this forward as it allows us to continue to build together.

The last thing Jesus came to do was start another religion. He came to show us what life in the Kingdom of God looks like. Through the cross, Jesus offers us this same kind of life – a life lived in relationship with God. This powerful video illustrates the life changing invitation that God has made to us.   Click to watch the video here
